Provide legal and strategic counsel to the USTA.  


  • Provide business and legal support to all USTA and USTA family divisions (Administrative, Finance, Community Tennis, National Tennis Center, and USTA Foundation) in the following areas:
    • Contract negotiation and Drafting
    • Corporate Governance
    • Application of Rules/Regulations and Grievances
    • Not-for Profit Law
    • Litigation
    • Other matters that require Association-wide coordination
  • Engage in extensive verbal and written communication with USTA clients (including advising all levels of USTA staff)
  • Serve as a member of USTA Legal Department team providing regular interaction, counsel and legal support as needed.
  • Other such related duties as may be required


  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge of providing business and legal support in Contract Negotiation and Drafting, Corporate Governance, application of Rules and Regulations, Grievances, Litigation, and Non-for-Profit Law.
  • 3-7 years of applicable law practice experience; some in-house experience is preferable
  • Law degree with admission to New York state bar
  • Ability to effectively manage outside counsel
  • Ability to effectively write business legal reports and correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information to management
  • Ability to effectively respond to inquiries for regulatory agencies, customers and business community
  • Self-assured and confident with a strong belief in own capabilities
  • Ability to handle long-term and/or complex legal projects both independently as a part of a team with significant financial or other business impact
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment. 
  • Strong business acumen and outstanding writing skills
  • Self-starter, sound decision making skills, excellent attention to detail
  • Must be willing to work in a "hybrid/flex" environment which will require both on-site and remote work as designated by USTA, and may be updated from time to time.
