Who We Are

We are Tennis! The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the recognized leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the U.S. The Hawaii Pacific Section is one of 17 geographic Sections of the USTA. Incorporated in 1973, the Hawaii Pacific Section embraces over 7,800 individual members and 109 organizational members in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas. In addition, the Hawaii Pacific Section is further comprised of four Community Tennis Organizations: Kauai, Maui, East Hawaii & West Hawaii. The Hawaii Pacific Section is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to carrying out the goals of the national association within its region, particularly with respect to promoting tennis opportunities for juniors and adults of all abilities and all cultural backgrounds.

The Role

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the overall tennis facility and tennis operation.
  • Provide tennis instruction for the Play & Learn program and other programs.
  • Manage the tennis court reservation program.
  • Manage the tennis membership program.
  • Create and conduct tennis programs, activities, and events.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide tennis instruction for the Play & Learn Tennis program.
  • Provide private, semi-private, and group tennis lessons.
  • Provide tennis instruction in a safe manner.
  • Be properly groomed and dressed.
  • Act in a professional and customer service-oriented manner

Other Duties:

  • Handle communications with students to include rainouts, cancellations, and other questions they may have.
  • Maintain recommended class sizes.
  • Have students complete a class evaluation and have these sent to the USTA HPS office.
  • Do not teach on public tennis courts without a permit.
  • Communicating and coordinating repair and maintenance with the Executive Director, Ron Romano

Who You Are

  • High School degree required, college degree preferred
  • Proficient in computer skills and use of Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to communicate by email and access the class roster
  • Ability to play tennis at an NTRP level of 4.5 or higher required
  • Ability to teach group tennis lessons outdoors required
  • Ability to commute to the Hawaii Prince Tennis Club and designated locations; must have reliable transportation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Requires contacts and good rapport with the community.
  • Preferred USPTA or PTR certified tennis instructor at a Development Coach level or higher

The expected range for the base salary for this position is $12,000 plus lesson income. This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify.  The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
