Who We Are


The United States Tennis Association, Northern California Section (USTA NorCal), based in Alameda, California, is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization promoting and growing the game of tennis across Northern California and Northwest Nevada since 1953.


As one of 17 geographic sections of the governing body of tennis in the United States, USTA NorCal is deeply rooted in its commitment to building an active and engaged tennis community. USTA NorCal engages audiences across the whole community and brings tennis to a diverse set of players of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. From grassroots tennis in the parks, organized leagues, and tournaments to tennis scholarships, grants, and education resources, this team champions tennis throughout Northern California.

The Role

Bring greater tennis awareness to communities in our Section to grow the game of tennis. Implement outreach initiatives as directed and guided by the Section's goals and priorities. Build and cultivate relationships within the community. Specific territories served in this role: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo. *Applicants must reside within at least 20 miles of one of these counties.

  • Implement and develop your designated community's outreach initiatives and partnerships. Act as the owner and client contact for these programs.
  • Facilitate and support your designated community initiative plans and actions as guided by section goals and in coordination with your manager.
  • Support and guide the programs using a quality control and growth approach to accomplish the organization's overall goals.
  • Oversee and implement Section and National requirements surrounding these programs.
  • Schedule regular weekly meetings and activities to develop, deliver, and grow the initiatives.
  • Allot a percentage of your time toward traveling your region to build and develop relationships and partnerships.
  • Fulfill all administrative elements of your programs.
  • Create Excel spreadsheets with client rosters, information, updates, status, and next steps, and send it to the manager weekly.
  • Initiate and facilitate community outreach meetings that lead to USTA programming.
  • Assist Tennis teaching professionals, volunteers, Park & Recreation Centers, CTA’s, and others with implementing USTA-based programs in your region.
  • Handle the planning and implementation of your community initiatives.
  • Provide training and educational programs for clients and community organizations.
  • Be proactive and stay current with Section and National programs, resources, tools, and updates.
  • Act as project leader for outreach and USTA-related events.
  • Assist with other programs or activities as assigned by your manager.
  • Serve as the main advocate for tennis in your community by attending city council, HOA, board, or other facility meetings.
  • Understand the facility and court status of your entire region. 

Adult Social Play Programs

Social Play includes some of the following initiatives:

  • Work with the Community Programs team and others to plan, implement, and grow adult social play opportunities across the Section; for example - pilots at unique social locations (such as breweries), adult red ball leagues, play events, and drop-in tennis social events.
  • Facilitate the USTA NorCal Adult Ambassador program.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by your manager.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
  • Strong academic background; baccalaureate degree and/or strong work experience
  • Experience training and collaborating with staff and volunteers.
  • Proficient Computer/Software skills including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suites.

Travel Requirements

Specific territories served in this role: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo. *Applicants must reside within at least 20 miles of one of these counties.

  • Attend local and national staff training and meetings as required by your supervisor.
  • Ability to travel within the Section and occasionally outside the Section.
  • Attend and supervise events based on staff and department needs.
  • Coordinate and attend meetings dependent on staff and department needs.
  • Must be available for travel, to work weekends and extra hours as necessary.

The expected range for the base salary for this position is $$33.65 to $40.86 per hour.

This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
