Who We Are 

The United States Tennis Association, Northern California Section (USTA NorCal), based in  Alameda, California, is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization promoting and growing the  game of tennis across Northern California and Northwest Nevada since 1953. 

As one of 17 geographic sections of the governing body of tennis in the United States, USTA NorCal  is deeply rooted in its commitment to building an active and engaged tennis community. USTA  NorCal engages audiences across the whole community and brings tennis to a diverse set of  players of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. From grassroots tennis in the parks, organized  leagues, and tournaments to tennis scholarships, grants, and education resources, this team  champions tennis throughout Northern California.

The Role 

Manage the overall planning and implementation for Marketing, including social media,  communications, public relations digital strategies, major events execution, and sponsorships at USTA NorCal. Manage and analyze impact of the marketing plans designed around USTA NorCal’s  Strategic Plan and the Marketing Committee efforts to increase program participation to yield USTA  membership acquisition, retention, and awareness. 

  • Ensure Marketing goals are understood by staff and others; work with the Executive Director to develop and implement plans within the department to achieve these goals.
  • Lead, manage and motivate a team of creative, customer service focused staff
  • Drive, develop, manage strategic marketing and branding plan; including communications, social media, public relations, and website content. 
    • Evaluate, analyze and recommend the most effective and high-quality ways to deliver our  messaging and overall marketing objectives. 
  • Play a key role in the planning and execution of high-profile events such as the Section  Connection, She Rallies: Sip & Serve, Junior Player Party, and the Hall of Fame
  • Event planning includes overall preparation, script writing, speaker presentation  finalization, signage, final registration, name badges, speakers’ logistical coordination,  finalizing bios, vendor coordination, and event execution oversight. 
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of integrated digital and social media plans.
  • Manage regular analytics reporting and tracking, interpret implications, report metrics, and flag issues regarding all digital platforms using both internal and external tools. 
  • Manage an annual marketing calendar with organizational initiatives and events in  collaboration with all departments.
  • Ensure that staff is on task with all the right resources and priorities to attain goals.
  • Conduct research and proactive outreach to potential companies and organizations to secure sponsorships that generate revenue and expand the reach of tennis to new and diverse audiences. 
  • Manage relationships and liaise with printers and designers. 
  • Work with content management systems and automated marketing software.
  • Knowledge of the USTA brand, products and audience; knowledge of tennis.  
  • Educate staff and organization partners on brand awareness.  
  • Manage vendors and relationships as needed. 
  • Develop and monitor goals and workflow with department staff. 

Travel Obligations 

  • Must be available for occasional travel within the NorCal section, willing to work occasional  weekends for events or meetings, and ready to accommodate extra hours as necessary to  meet organizational needs. 

Who You Are 

  • You reside in a Bay Area County with good proximity to our Alameda office. 
  • B.A/B.S. in Marketing, Communications, or related field experience.
    • 5+ years of marketing experience in integrated marketing and communication; including  proven experience and savvy in digital and social media; with increasing strategic  responsibility. 
    • In depth knowledge of marketing concepts, principles, digital and social marketing best  practices. 
  • Excellent copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills; an eye for details.
  • Experience leading, managing, and motivating a team. 
  • Strong analytical ability. 
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, managing, and implementing marketing projects.
  • Ability and experience in special events planning, hosting, and execution
  • Ability and experience in on-site marketing; booth layout, materials, activities, signage, 
  • Ability to evaluate and facilitate a wide range of marketing tactics such as macro, micro, traditional, website, mobile, social, inbound, etc.  
  • Graphic design skills, basic website layout, and editing experience are a plus.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively combining vision with administrative  competence. 
  • Strong project management skills including planning, delegation and budgeting.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, team player, with ability to both lead and work collaboratively as  part of a fast-paced team. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint & G Suite, Design software, Wix, and  Video Meetings. 
  • Ability to get things done with a focus toward continuous improvement.

This is a full-time job (8am-5pm) and the expected exempt compensation for this position is  $98,000 - $110,000 annually depending on experience and reports to the Executive Director. 

The role works in the Alameda, CA office at least 2 days per week.  

This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The  actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the  applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, and unique skills.
