Who We Are 

The United States Tennis Association, Northern California Section (USTA NorCal), based in  Alameda, California, is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization promoting and growing the  game of tennis across Northern California and Northwest Nevada since 1953. 

As one of 17 geographic sections of the governing body of tennis in the United States, USTA NorCal  is deeply rooted in its commitment to building an active and engaged tennis community. USTA  NorCal engages audiences across the whole community and brings tennis to a diverse set of  players of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. From grassroots tennis in the parks, organized  leagues, and tournaments to tennis scholarships, grants, and education resources, this team  champions tennis throughout Northern California.

The Role 

Manage and oversee company operations including Finance, Information Technology, Data Analytics, and Office Services. Work in partnership with the Executive Director and senior leadership to strategize  and develop long-term plans to develop greater operational innovation and deliver operational goals. 

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership in the development and  delivery of performance goals and long-term operational plans 
  • Oversee the annual budgeting process in partnership with the program and department managers.
    • Review and analyze all department financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep leadership aware of the organization’s financial status
  • Conduct budget reviews and report cost plans to upper management 
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and  interdepartmental collaboration 
  • Build and maintain relationships with all department heads, external partners, and vendors  to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols  
  • Uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring regulations are followed
  • Actively pursue strategic and operational objectives 
  • Develop strategic plans and means for increased participation and revenue growth 
  • Manage and develop a team of operations department staff 

Finance:  

  • Review and approve expenditures against the budget on a monthly basis. Oversee  projections, variances, rationale and other reports as requested for leadership
  • Manage the Controller to ensure deliverables and deadlines are met 
  • Oversee data analysis and financial reporting tasks for monthly Board meetings Information Technology: 
  • Oversee the Manager of IT to identify and ensure IT issues are resolved in a timely manner Work with Manager of IT to ensure I.T. contractor deliverables are being met Work closely with I.T. to ensure we are innovating as best we can 
  • Work closely with I.T. to ensure employee needs are being met 

Administration/Operations:  

  • Oversee risk management, including insurance, general liability, property and equipment, and directors’ and officers’ insurance 
  • Ensure operational activities remain on time and within a defined budget
  • Act as a point of contact for operations related to onboarding and offboarding
  • Coordinate all operational aspects of the Annual NorCal elections 

Office Services: 

  • Responsible for managing all physical office building related issues
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts including independent contractors 
  • Oversee materials and inventory management

Data Analytics: 

  • Oversee or provide points of view about data relevant to programs and operations 
  • Oversee some collection of data for stakeholders that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant information 
  • Use data to identify problems or propose solutions for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and develop policies for data governance 

Project Management: 

  • Strong project management skills including work planning, delegation and budgeting Manage a portfolio of Finance, Data, IT, and Office Services projects

Travel Obligations 

  • Must be available for occasional travel within the NorCal section, willing to work occasional  weekends for events or meetings, and ready to accommodate extra hours as necessary to  meet organizational needs. 

Who You Are 

  • You reside in a Bay Area County with good proximity to our Alameda office.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field 
  • At least ten years of experience in Operations and/or Finance related role
  • Powerful organizational, communication, and leadership skills, demonstrated by previous professional success
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills 
  • Advanced relationship-building skills 
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; self-starter 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, priorities and deadlines 
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Tableau, Video Meetings
  • Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control  operations and customer service 
  • Knowledge of general business software and aptitude to learn new applications; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Suite, Workday Adaptive Planning,  Zendesk, and Tableau. 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

This is a full-time job (8am-5pm) and the expected exempt compensation for this position is  $110,000 - $125,000 annually depending on experience and reports to the Executive Director. 

The role works in the Alameda, CA office at least 2 days per week.  

This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The  actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the  applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, and unique skills.
