The Role

 

The Adult League Manager is responsible for ensuring organized, high-quality and enjoyable competitive experiences across all six USTA MS districts. This role combines team management, strategic planning, programming knowledge, people management and project/event execution. The Adult League Manager oversees a regional team of Area League Coordinators (ALCs), works collaboratively with customers and represents Middle States at the local and national levels. This position requires running and supporting championships that take place on various weekends throughout the year.

Leadership & Management
  • Lead, support, and collaborate with a team of ALCs across six districts. Foster an environment of teamwork, accountability, project execution and shared goals.

  • Establish team priorities, set performance goals, and conduct regular one-on-one and team meetings to ensure alignment and communication.

  • Provide support and feedback to ALCs in navigating and resolving District league questions and issues.

  • Help build and maintain a positive, inclusive team culture.

  • Effectively manage the department’s annual budget and resources.

  • Provide mentorship, direction, and clear expectations to staff and volunteers involved in USTA League.

Program Strategy & Operations
  • Oversee all aspects of USTA MS Adult League operations, including various league seasons, divisions, schedules, Championships and advancement opportunities.

  • Work with the Adult League Committee to review, recommend, and implement updates to Section Rules & Regulations, incorporating feedback from key stakeholders as appropriate.

  • Collaborate with USTA National staff and other Section League Coordinators to align on national rules and best practices. 

  • Use data and participation reports to analyze league trends and identify growth opportunities. Collaborate with ALC team to enhance the player experience and provide outstanding customer service.

  • Identify new or underutilized divisions that could strengthen district-level play and total participation.

Championships & Events
  • Plan and oversee all Section Championship events. Along with ALC team, contribute to the planning and execution of District events. 

  • Coordinate logistics with ALCs and vendors, including site selection, scheduling, staff assignments, officials, trainers, equipment, awards and more.

  • Ensure a professional event atmosphere that reflects positively on USTA MS.

Communication & Engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for USTA League, ensuring timely and clear communication.

  • Build relationships with providers to support league growth and engagement.

  • Promote adult leagues through collaboration with the communications and marketing team.

Administration
  • Ensure that all league play and championships adhere to USTA MS regulations and procedures.

  • Oversee timely submission of results, rating appeals and data reporting.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of league operations, reports and communications.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Who You Are 

  • Proven success managing staff, projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

  • Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills.

  • Confident communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

  • Customer service skills and the ability to collaborate with and oversee volunteers.

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusion and respect for individuals from all backgrounds, identities and experiences.

  • Computer experience, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, and Google.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

  • Knowledge of the USTA MS league program, and tennis background preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of the USTA MS programming team.

  • College degree preferred but not required.
