The Role

Manage the complexities of the live production and broadcast operations of the US Open Broadcast Host and World feeds.  Responsible for the financial management and logistics of the US Open, and ensure the we deliver the highest quality broadcast product to all constituents -- including Domestic and Global broadcast partners. Work closely with the Director of Broadcast Technical Operations, and HBS consultants, to manage the overall plan for US Open Host Broadcast Operations and Production.

 

In this role you will use your major event production and project management experience to plan and execute the US Open Host/World production ensuring operational timelines and financial planning goals are met. You will be responsible for creating production timelines, plans and the budgets from the initial planning business scope, though the execution and ongoing supervision of the event and the post-mortem and reconciliation stage

 

  • Function as a major decision maker in the selection of vendors and production service partners. Define the scope of work for vendors and production service partners and work closely with the legal department on defining the scope of work and deliverables for the contract terms.
  • Responsible for hiring of approx. 500 +production and operations staff, 50+ talent, and work closely with the Host vendor and Director of Technical Operations on the hiring, scheduling of 800+ technical crews.
  • Work closely with the finance team to track and reconcile all production and operations costs ensuring we remain on budget
  • Collaborate with US Open teams (eg. Legal, venue operations, tournament management, sponsorship, marketing, entertainment, etc), in operationalizing properties and driving synergy as needed. Facilitate clear communication between teams, creating a sense of community and shared purpose.
  • Seek continuous improvements in the execution of the US Open broadcast (e.g. recommend necessary changes to operational strategy, seek alignment with necessary stakeholders and implement changes as necessary)
  • Lead regular status updates on project timelines and budgets to senior leadership. Recognize and flag potential issues while providing timely solutions to resolve
  • Integrate with the International Broadcast rightsholders on and off site to ensure they have all the necessary elements to broadcast the US Open, including production plans, MSP, resources, on-site assets including sets and standup locations for coverage.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the different roles and functions of the production and technical crews.
  • Manage the broadcast operations staff, including seasonal staff and the management of the World Feed and global broadcast partner’s relationships. Liaison with ESPN, Global Broadcasters in the planning, execution of overall broadcast services to rights holders, venue management, and technical providers.
  • Support the US Open Host production though process improvements, and various innovation initiatives. Design solutions to manage and support the overall Host production and Global broadcast partners so we can work more efficiently and continue to deliver the tools, content and mechanisms to manage and support the overall operation. 

The US Open broadcast operations must be executed at the highest level of broadcast excellence, to ensure we are delivering the best possible US Open coverage to our broadcast partners, and continuing to innovate and the Global US Open broadcasts.

 

Who You Are

  • Minimum of 10+ years in a production management role or similar position in the Sports industry on major sports events
  • Tennis knowledge is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and exacting attention to detail required. Strong ability to multitask, adapt to fast paced environment and manage major productions from start to finish.
  • Person needs to work well in high pressure situations and flexible hours that include, nights and weekends. Heaviest work load is leading up to, during and post US Open. 
  • A high level of organization, time management, and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, and be comfortable in managing and aligning multiple work flows simultaneously
  • Strong knowledge of Excel required, CAD, Adobe and Google docs a plus.
  • This position is designated as "hybrid/flex" in New York, NY and may allow for both remote and on-site work. Any such position must meet the current USTA hybrid/flex requirements as updated from time to time.

The expected range for the annual base salary for this position is $140,000.00 to $170,000.00. This role is bonus eligible. This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
