The Role

The Director of Marketing oversees all marketing and partnership functions for USTA Southern California, including brand strategy development, priority setting, and the planning and execution of initiatives that drive tennis participation, player engagement, and organizational growth. This role manages the annual marketing budget and leads marketing, creative, sponsorship, and event initiatives that support the organization’s strategic goals. The Director of Marketing translates business objectives into effective marketing and sponsorship programs, from concept through execution, measured against set performance metrics. This role also ensures the organization’s branding and messaging are clearly defined and consistently delivered across all channels and target audiences. This position reports to the Executive Director of USTA Southern California.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the organization’s marketing strategy and campaigns
  • Manage brand positioning, messaging, and market presence
  • Lead and mentor the marketing team (social, web, content, PR, field marketing, etc.)
  • Engage and manage vendors and external consultants 
  • Oversee marketing budget and allocate resources effectively
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and Community, Adult, and Junior Departments
  • Present marketing goals, data-driven performance insights, and key accomplishments at quarterly board meetings

  

Who You Are

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field is required; a Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • 8+ Years of Strategic/Marketing Leadership experience
  • Marketing team management experience
  • Creative, collaborative problem solver with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Data-driven decision maker with Brand evolution and management experience
  • Digital marketing and campaign management expertise
  • Excellent cross-departmental collaboration
  • Budget development and management
  • Extensive sports marketing experience, with tennis experience preferred
  • Proven experience in working with sponsors to create compelling partnerships
  • Experiential, grassroots marketing experience at the local level, regionally
  • Expertise in developing marketing strategy, tactics, and platforms
  • Metric-driven with excellent analytical skills
  • Creative, collaborative problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Software Experience Preferred:

  • Tableau
  • Microsoft Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Google Workspace - Gmail, Chat, Meet, Slides, Docs, Forms, Sites, etc
  • Expensify/Bill.com or similar expense management platforms
  • Adobe Creative Suite

The expected range for the annual base salary for this position is $100,000- $110,000. This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
